The 4th African Apimondia Symposium Kampala, Uganda
In September 2026 Okullo Christopher attended for four days and 4th African Apimondia Symposium that was held in Kampala this year. This was a great opportunity to listen to different international bee and apiary experts on the future of the apiculture industry and to develop solutions for protecting pollinators.
This 4 day symposium brought together international players in the fields of research, beekeeping, policy makers, investors and private sector actors exploring commercial opportunities.
This was a great opportunity for Uganda to open doors for its honey and bee products to the international community.
Development organizations learned how apiculture can contribute to economic development, especially in rural and underserved communities.
Our goal continues in working with our village bee farmers in helping them create a high quality honey that is not only ready for the international market but that will be in high demand. We know Chris brought back a lot of valuable knowledge that will help us in this endeavour.
Current Needs
This truck is used to travel to the village to work with our quilting women, while loaded down with fabric and sewing supplies. It is used to transport bee hives and has even been known to transport goats. It is also used to travel around Uganda, purchasing fabrics or making the 6 hour trip to Kampala to complete business.
As the cost of purchasing used vehicles in Uganda is very expensive then add in not really knowing how good of a condition a used vehicle may be in when your purchase it, we feel it is more economical to just replace the engine in this truck. The price we have been quoted is approximately $4,500. This includes the whole engine, cylinder and block and includes the gear box.
We are looking for people who would like to help us finance this expense and any amount, small or big would be very appreciated. If you would like to give please visit our Donate page where you can make a donation with either a card or go to our Paypal account. If you would like to mail a check, please email us and we can tell you how to do that.
Remember, your donation to NUWOCSI may be tax deductible and we can issue you a receipt.
We are very appreciative of your generosity.
Thank You and God Bless!
UPDATE: The prices for a good replacement engine for our truck have substantially increased recently and the mechanics we are using do not feel the cost is justified. They have suggested just replacing the block, where most of the problem came from and do repairs to the whole engine. This reduces the costs of repairs down to $2000. We have received $450 already and are now looking for $1550.
